Japan Club is a student run CIO at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia to provide cultural and educational services to the community. Each semester the club is responsible for various events centered around the Japanese language, culture, food, and heritage. While the goal is to promote Japanese culture and is ideal for individuals who are learning the language or simply share a passion for Japanese heritage, the club is open to any and all members of the university community and the greater Charlottesville area. Japan Club teams up with other CIOs within the university, local Charlottesville schools/UVA their respective Japanese programs, as well as other organizations that similarly work to promote international culture and relations. Japan Club is completely student run and does not follow the guidance of any professor or faculty adviser. Through many years of continued leadership and dedication, the club has grown into the organization it is today.
Although this organization has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part of or an agency of the University. It is a separate and independent organization which is responsible for and manages its own activities and affairs. The University does not direct, supervise or control the organization and is not responsible for the organization’s contracts, acts or omissions.
